Meet Pastor Mick and Pastoral assistant Jacob

Pastor Mick was born and raised in Torrance, California. He graduated from California State University Long Beach with a degree in Communications and subsequently attended graduate school at both Grace Graduate School of Theology and Talbot Theological Seminary. Though raised in a “good family”, Pastor Mick realized his need for Christ and became a Christian in his teens, on the tail end of what isknown as the Jesus Movement of the 60’s and 70’s.

After college, he met and married Jan. They moved to the Bay Area where he worked for a major oil company for several years, while also serving as a “lay” leader of his church fellowship in areas of youth ministry, worship leading, and leading home fellowship groups.  Pastor Mick entered the full-time ministry as a church planting missionary with The Evangelical Alliance Mission (T.E.A.M.) in Latin America in 1987 where he worked with a team to start a new church in Caracas, Venezuela.

In 1991 Pastor Mick returned to the United States to help start Calvary Chapel of Indio, Ca. (now known as Grace Chapel of Indio). He served there as the Assistant Pastor until 1994 when the church commissioned him and his wife to start the congregation in Blythe (100 miles east of Indio).

Mick is the Founding Pastor, and has continues to serve as Senior Pastor of Calvary Blythe for these last years.  He is our main teaching pastor.  His wife Jan serves as a Ladies Ministry Director and the Church Secretary.  They have been married for over 43 years and they have two grown children and, at last count, five grandchildren.

Our Pastoral Assistant Jacob Osife was born and raised right here in Blythe Ca.  As a young kid growing up in Blythe, his life consisted of sports where he shined as an all around athlete.  He was exposed to church as a kid, and then eventually became a part of Calvary Chapel's  youth group in his middle school years.

Even at a young age Jacob displayed rebellious behavior and temper problems.  As a teen, Jacob was torn between surrendering to Jesus and living his life he thought he wanted.  His life choices eventually took him in and out of juvenile hall and later, as a young adult, in and out of jail.  Jacob at 20 years old was given the option to enter a Recovery Center or serve a prison sentence. This was an easy choice for him, and he entered a Recovery Center. Little did he know, this was all apart of Gods miraculous hand at work.

Jacob surrendered his life to Christ in February 2010 while attending the Recovery Center, where he also Celebrated his 21st birthday.  Upon Completion of the program he was hired on as a Drug and counselor trainee.  Since that time Jacob has had a variety of jobs.  Jacob has been married to his wife Erin since May of 2015.  They have 5 children .  Jacob has served faithfully as a Deacon with Calvary Chapel since 2017, and, as of summer 2024, is now a full-time staff member.  He serves as Calvary Chapels “Pastoral Assistant”, serving the ministry in a variety of ways as well as overseeing the Youth and Recovery Ministries.
