“So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone. In whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord”
Foundations of the the Faith is a twelve session study identifying the central and foundational doctrinal truths of Biblical Christianity.
Why A “Foundations Of The Faith” Course?
Simply put, we need it. There are a lot of slightly strange to severely twisted beliefs that go around under the guise of “Christian.” A quick search of the internet or the religious section at Barnes and Noble will confirm that.
Strange doctrines masquerading as “Biblical” or “Christian” isn’t unique to us. It even happened with the first believers in the first century. Several portions of the New Testament were written to confront and correct twisted doctrines that had crept into the church – especially related to the nature and identity of Jesus, and what “salvation” and “God’s grace” was all about.
The Apostle Paul referred to “doctrines of demons” that pull away from the true faith (1 Tim. 4:1). Jesus himself warned that false prophets would arise to mislead (Mt. 24:24). Paul called them “savage wolves” speaking perverse things to seek to draw away the disciples (Acts 20:29-30).
The Apostle Jude exhorted to “contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints” in light of the false doctrinal influences creeping in.
So, why do we need this course? To guard ourselves against “strange winds of doctrine,” and to build our faith and life on the solid foundation of God’s Unchangeable Truth. Heb. 6:19 equates this foundation to an anchor that keeps us sure and steadfast, even in storms.
A Firm Foundation
In Mt. 7:25-28, Jesus spoke a parable in which he compared one believing His Word and acting upon it to one who had built his house upon a rock (as op- posed to the fool who built on sand). When the storm came, the foundation and house remained secure – not so with the house built on sand.
What we truly believe is the foundation to life. It de- termines what we think and do. We view everything through our foundational beliefs. We call it a “world view.”
We encourage you to know and embrace these foundational Biblical truths, that your life might be truly stable and secure as you build it on the Rock.
What Doctrines or Topics Will The Course Address?
The course is made up of three sections. Each sec- tion is comprised of four individual sessions, each covering a different foundational topic.
Though there will be some natural building from topic to topic throughout the sessions, each session is also designed to be a “stand-alone” topic. That is to say, a person isn’t required to attend all twelve sessions, nor even all four sessions of a section. Though encouraged to attend the entire course, you are welcome to attend all or some of the sessions – whatever your time and situation may allow.
Following are the specific session topics.
